To clarify, the elastic tabstops functionality uses tab characters, not spaces (play with the Java applet at http://nickgravgaard.com/elastictabstops/#tryitrightnow). The Gedit plugin however lets users convert their files to use spaces when they save files and vice versa which is handy if you have to work on a project which uses spaces.

I consider IE8 a disaster it interprets CSS completely different from IE6,7 and Firefox everything needs to be reworked and I forsee this to be the case for many websites. IE8 is another bad joke from Redmont...

I have started working in IE 8 and it seems to be more compliant (with a doctype and reset code) to FF than IE 7. I had to create a seperate CSS for IE 8 although it has reset some things to be more inline with FF. I had the !important hack on some areas to aid with IE7, 6. Although I have not gone too in depth in my research, the site we are about to launch needed minimal help to get IE 8 totally correct.

Thanks for the tip about the edition upgrade, but that didn't seem to work either. I ended up having to do that with this exectuable:

https://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=08e52ac2-1d62-45f6-9a4a-4b76a8564a2b&displaylang=en

what a nightmare that all was. Looks like Microsoft is taking after its big brother IBM, where the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.
